The Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival is here!

Summer in Saskatoon has so much to offer.  There is so much to do, it is hard to choose.  However, the Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival is a staple for most of us of here in Saskatoon.  It attracts performers and music lovers from all over North America.  The 2016 Saskatchewan Jazz Festival runs from June 24-July 3.  The ten day festival takes place at 20 venues all over Saskatoon but the best venue of all is   the TD Mainstage.

Saskatchewan Jazz Fest Main Stage

The main stage is located in the Bess Gardens behind the Delta Bessborough hotel.  ‘The Bes’ is a historic landmark in downtown Saskatoon.  A castle on the river with a beautiful view overlooking the River Saskatchewan.   Over recent years the main stage has seen amazingly, talented musicians such as John Legend, Lauryn Hill and Ben Harper.    This year’s Jazz Fest is extra special.  It is celebrating 30 years!

As part of the 30 year anniversary celebration the Saskatchewan Jazz Fest is partnering with The Broadway Theatre.  There will be films playing Tuesday, June 28th and Wednesday, June 29th in the Bes Gardens.

Tuesday, June 28th – All you need is love of the Beatles!  The film Hard Day’s Night will be playing in the Bes Gardens at 9pm.

Wednesday, June 29th -The Wizard of Oz will be playing at the Bess Gardens at 9pm.  It also happens to be the last day of school for our kids around Saskatoon.  What a great way to celebrate and enjoy an evening with the family.

Admission to both movies is free!  Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and get there nice and early.

The Bes Gardens will also be host to the second annual yoga jam.  The yoga is led by Saskatoon’s own Ryan Leir.  Ryan is the owner of One Yoga studio off of Broadway.  This year’s music will be provided by The Gaff.  This free yoga session will take place Saturday, June 25th at 10:30am.  There is no need to be a advanced yogi.  All levels are welcome to attend!  You might want to arrive early to secure your spot.

Also new to Jazz Fest  this year are special children’s rates.  They age of free admission has been bumped up to 7, when accompanying a paying adult. And children aged 8-12 get 50% off of tickets to shows at the TD Mainstage.  You may be asked for proof of age at the door so be prepared.

The 2016 Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival is anticipated to be the best yet.  In total, this year’s festival will see  over 140 shows, more than 90 free shows, 2 films and 1 yoga session all over 20 venues.  And it all starts today!  Get out and enjoy!
