Pets in the Park, held at the Kiwanis Memorial Park on Spadina Crescent in Saskatoon, was held on July 8, 2012 and was a great success. There were so many families there with their pets in support of the event that raises awareness and money for the Saskatoon SPCA, New Hope Dog Rescue and SCAT Street Cat Rescue Program. This is the only time during the year that the City of Saskatoon allows on leash pets in this park. It is a well treed park that banks the South Saskatchewan River offering fantastic views. We enjoyed taking pictures and video of all the furry friends and their families.

Saskatoon Pets in the Park Inc. (PIP) is a registered charity founded in 2006 and dedicated to raising funds to provide care for sick, injured, neo-natal and homeless animals from Saskatoon.  Members of the PIP Committee include members from three local animal welfare agencies, New Hope Dog Rescue, the Saskatoon SPCA, and SCAT Street Cat Rescue Program, as well as some very dedicated animal lovers from the Saskatoon community.

Pets in the Park (PIP) is one of Saskatoon’s popular summer events which combines fun for the entire family with fundraising for a great cause.  Families can bring their leashed pets to the park and enjoy a wonderful day together.  It is held every year on the weekend of July just following the Jazz Festival.

This is the only day of the year that City Council generously grants permission to allow on leash pets to accompany their human families in one of Saskatoon’s most picturesque downtown parks – Kiwanis Memorial Park.

Good music by local musicians and guests is heard on the Showmobile.  Demonstrations abound with such activies as dog agility and/or flyball, City of Saskatoon Police K-9 services and dog training show how much we depend on our canine pets and how we can spend quality time with them.

The Saskatoon SPCA holds their hugely successful walkathon every year in conjunction with the PIP event.  There always a good chance to see the UofS Huskies during the walk, as well as local dignitaries such as Mayor Don Atchison and the Honourary Chairperson, Mardele Atchison.  If you keep a sharp eye, you may even see some visiting celebrities.

The food concession offers a great selection of tasty BBQ as well as treats such as popcorn and sno-cones.  There are even doggie sno-cones.  At the baking table there are wonderful, homemade goodies right beside the free coffee.  Water is provided on site, both for humans and animals.  And the dogs get a chance to cool off in the doggie pools.

The Silent Auction has a myriad of outstanding items.  The right bid lets you take the prize home.  Don’t forget, please be generous with your bids.  It’s all for the animals.

The Trade Booth area is expanding rapidly with every year.  Pet-related businesses and other non-profit organizations are invited to showcase their products and services to the animal lovers of Saskatoon.

Sponsors, such as Pizza Hut Saskatoon, and participants, like you, help to make this event a truly sensational event and one that neither you, nor your pet, want to miss.

It’s a great opportunity for pets to socialize with other pets, and for pet parents to show off their furry children, all the while, benefiting the animals in need.

We welcome visitors from all over Western Canada to this amazing day.
