“Hello this is Chuck the creator of SaskatoonUpClose.com. On today’s first episode of The SaskatoonUpClose Marketing Show, we’re going to talk about techniques you can have your front line employees use to increase engagement with your customers and clients, build relationships, and in the end, get more sales. We have all seen and heard these words before right? Uh, Hi, may I help you? May I help you find something? Uh what? Do you have an appointment? What? This is annoys all of us, and it does not make me feel welcome and certainly will NOT help increase sales. If a customer walks into your store, don’t you think they are there to learn more about what you have to offer? So why ask them? They are there because they probably need your help. Instead, why not say something like Hi thanks for coming to Billy Bobs clothing. All of our pants are 2 for 1 and all the new jeans are on this rack here. Wait to see what they say or do. Often, they will wander over to a section. Then when they do, just start by commenting on what they are looking at. Show your expertise so they can start to trust you. Say, these jeans are a little smaller fitting than this version over here, but many customers like the $5 difference. Usually, words like this will put the customer at ease and they will likely start to talk to you. If not, at least you tried then they know you are there to help when they are ready. If you work in some sort of service business, you could even say “Hi welcome to Sebastien’s Service, and thanks for coming in today. This alone will make the client feel welcome, and they will just ask for what they need. You could even say hi, thanks for coming in. Have you heard about our new special? Even a place where you have to take a number, why wouldn’t someone say please take a number, have a seat in our waiting room, and feel free to have a read of some of our magazines on the rack. If there is something you need, come on and let me know. These techniques to engagement require thorough training and great product knowledge. But the benefits of increased sales are worth it, aren’t they? Try one of these techniques and see your sales grow!
