Gibson’s Fish & Chips Restaurant Saskatoon
Gibson’s Fish & Chips located at 1501 8th Street East at Cumberland Square at the corner of Cumberland Avenue and 8th Street East is one of the greatest restaurants in Saskatoon. Why? Because they make an awesome plate of fish & chips. The batter is scrumptious and the service is delightful. They used to have a little dining area but now they have a full restaurant. Gibson’s is always packed at supper time and for good reason. Their food tastes great; the fish batter is so tasty, the tartar sauce is just right, the chips or fries are perfect and the food is always served fast. They have great desserts too like lemon meringue pie and cheesecake. And all at very good prices. Watch the video and witness the masterfully cooked fish and chips.
They can be reached at 306-374-1411.
Their hours of operation can be seen in the video.
Pike Lake Provincial Park – Saskatchewan
We drove to Pike Lake Provincial Park just outside of Saskatoon this summer. This is a late post but I imagine a cool place to go in the fall too! Pike Lake Provincial Park in Saskatchewan is a great place to hang out for the day. It is only a 20 minute drive from Saskatoon. We went there to hang out on the beach and it was great. It is a body of water of the South Saskatchewan River that got cut off from the main river. You can swim in the lake, or if you prefer, you go swimming in the pool. The lake was fine for swimming. No different than any other lake really. It is a small beach but enough room to get a spot. A lot of people were having picnics by the lake. You can even rent boats to go explore. There are many other things to do including hiking, fishing, walking, camping, play on the grass area, play baseball, eat at the restaurant, shoot some mini golf and more activities too. You can view an entire list of activities on the Pike Lake website at:
http://www.saskparks.net/PikeLake
It is easy to get there from Saskatoon. Just take 22nd west (highway 7) and turn left on highway 16 and drive straight for around 23 kilometres. Here is the contact information:

Sandy Beach Area Circle and Spadina Saskatoon
In the summer the South Saskatchewan River levels get low and they expose some awesome beaches. A really nice one is on the north side of Circle Drive and Spadina Crescent right near the Circle Drive Bridge in Saskatoon. If you park your car along Spadina, you will be able to find a path that will lead you to the beach area. It is on the north side of the South Saskatchewan River just opposite the river part of the Sutherland Beach Off Leash Recreation Area. In September of this year, 2011, it was really hot and almost every day there was a huge crowd of people enjoying the sun and watching the river go by. The video shows how sandy the beach really is too.

Sutherland Beach Off Leash Recreation Area Saskatoon
The Sutherland Beach Off Leash Recreation Area in Saskatoon is a great place to take your dog for a long walk through forested paths, at the sides of fields and down by the South Saskatchewan River water. You are sure to bump in to familiar faces and furry friends during your walk. Lots of birds fly around, an occasional deer might spring up in the evening, and if you are lucky, the elusive beaver may swim by or chop a log for you. You can do a good lap or two to get good exercise. We go there at least once per day with Turk, who we adopted from the Saskatoon SPCA. He loves it there. There are dogs of all kinds there, big and small. And even some giant ones!! The park is very clean and they have garbage bins throughout to throw away the dog poop. The Sutherland Beach Off Leash Recreation Area is also connected to a fenced in area that is used by cyclists, walkers and runners. Turk did one day find a hole under the fence and used it. Actually, I think he had seen it before and was eyeing it up. Then one day he decided when I wasn’t really looking he could crawl under it and hang out on the other side. See picture below.
There is a major path that takes you right to the South Saskatchewan River where in the summer the low water levels create an awesome sandy beach area. The dogs can also get a little drink of water too. Go there with your dog and you will love it!
To get there go to Central Avenue and Attridge Drive and go north on Central. Take your first left and go down the dirt road that runs parallel to Attridge. Drive right to the Cul De Sac, get your dog out, and go for a walk!
Please clean up after your pet and make sure your dog is licensed.

President’s Choice Superdogs at the Saskatoon Ex
We went to see the President’s Choice Superdogs Bite it! show at the Saskatoon Exhibition (Saskatoon Ex) and they were amazing. Absolutely amazing! To see all those different dog breeds strut their stuff and do a ton of tricks was stunning. They are more than tricks though. The dogs interact with each other and their handlers in a choreographed sequence of tricks, jumps, dances, walks, runs, chases and lots of barking. It was very entertaining and the crowd was full of a large mix of people. The show was free but I would have gladly paid for it. The video shows some of the event only. You have to go to see how entertaining it really is. All the dogs are actually just pets from the house that join the show at different intervals. Another good thing that was presented was that over 40% of the dogs came from a shelter. Good for them! The show is sponsored by President’s Choice and their brand was clearly evident at the show but they did not ram it down your throat. The show travels all across Canada so nice to have sponsorship. If you go to their website you can learn more about the show, their itinerary and its interesting history.
