Neechie Gear Saskatoon Clothing Store
Neechie Gear is a clothing store located in The Centre Mall, at the theatre end. It was started by Kendal Netmaker from the Sweetgrass First Nations. Neechie Gear has become a very popular clothing brand in Saskatoon and even further across the Province and Country.
From the Neechie Gear website:
“Founder and CEO, Kendal Netmaker, grew up on Sweetgrass First Nation, Saskatchewan. He was single-parented, came from a low-income family and had little opportunity to be involved in any extra-curricular activities as a youth. It wasn’t until in elementary that he had met a life-long friend from South Africa who literally changed his life forever. His friend noticed a talent in Kendal and wondered why he wasn’t playing on the same sports teams that he was playing on. Kendal had told his friend that he had no way of paying the registration fees and had no means travelling to and from the games/practices.
Soon after, his South African friend pulled him aside and said, “Kendal, I told my parents what you told me and they want to pay for your fee to play on my soccer team and we can even drive you to the reserve after all games/practices”. Kendal was astounded that someone so kind would do this for him and accepted the extremely kind offer. This allowed Kendal to be part of many sports teams and continue with his education. This family eventually gave Kendal’s family a running vehicle which enabled him and his sisters to become involved in sports that carried them through high school and into university. Kendal has been part of, and witnessed what sports can do for youth by developing elite athletes and future leaders! Without his friends’ help, Kendal wouldn’t have a landed a college volleyball scholarship after graduating high school, finish university and create an award-winning company!“

Value Village was started by Savers, a US chain of thrift stores, opening their first Canadian store as Value Village in Vancouver in 1980. From their website:
“Savers is no ordinary thrift store. As a leader and pioneer in the retail thrift industry, we’re a place where people from all backgrounds love to shop for great selection, deals and treasures. But there’s also a higher purpose for what we do.
Savers was founded in 1954 on principles such as giving back and providing opportunities—core values we still embrace today. Our more than 140 nonprofit alliances share this thinking and inspire us with their work. Partnering with local charities is not a byproduct of our business—it’s how we do business. So when you shop at Savers, you help support many local community programs.
Another key difference is the relationship we have with our customers. We’re constantly reinventing ourselves into what they tell us is important. Unlike other large retailers, we’re a privately operated chain and take pride in getting to know the people who shop with us—often times on a first-name basis. There’s nothing we love more than hearing their stories on “art of thrifting.”
In our 56-year history, shoppers have come to expect fun and surprise with each visit to our stores. We make it easy to find bargains on every aisle and our stores are filled with current looks, authentic vintage finds, housewares, collectibles, furniture and unexpected treasures at every turn. Our nonprofit alliances drop off thousands of items every day so no two shopping trips are ever the same. Our incredible inventory comprises unique, quality used goods as well as new merchandise, including closeouts on great items not found at other thrift stores.”

The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Saskatoon
On my mom’s visit to Saskatoon she insisted I take her around town to check out stores that included The Salvation Army Thrift Store located at 410 42a Street East just north of Circle Drive.
We had fun looking around the store and my mom even tried out an old piano. You can see that in the video. The Thrift Store has all kinds of things to buy including men’s clothing, women’s clothing, children’s clothing, footwear and accessories, books and magazines, muli-media (including some old records), furniture, housewares and kitchen ware, collectables, bedding and new mattresses, electronics and toys. We did not buy anything on this visit but many people find cool things there all the time. Most of the merchandise is gently used and donated but they “select only the best merchandise to ensure you get the highest quality items every day”.
They have some special deals for students and seniors and they even sell gift certificates. They also have a coupon corner on their website where you can get some good savings.
The Salvation Army Thrift Stores do a lot for the communities they are located in sending a message of compassion and hope.
There are two stores in Saskatoon but we only visited the one. You can visit their website listed below for more information about The Salvation Army and their mission with the Thrift Stores.

Dawgs Footwear Saskatoon – Original vs Premium Dawgs
A video about the difference between Dawgs Original footwear line of shoes and Dawgs Premium footwear line of shoes. All Dawgs Premium have slip resistant rubber outsoles that make it so you are less likely to slip in wet or greasy conditions while walking and make it so the bottom of your shoe wears down a lot more slowly over time. Dawgs Original do not have slip resistant outsoles. The similarities are that all Dawgs footwear are made from the softest EVA on the market, they have the thickest heels for maximum shock absorption, come in a variety of styles and have full ranges of sizes. Dawgs is a Canadian brand based out of Saskatoon with offices also in Las Vegas, USA. We are a wholesale supplier of extreme comfort footwear across the world with our own chain of corporate retail stores in Western Canada.
